Five fronts we build in. Unless you tell us otherwise we specify stainless steel, because what fails first in a Singapore locker room is almost never the steel — it is the coating on it.
Stainless steel
201 for lower cost, 304 for everyday use, and 316 for wet and coastal areas
Corrosion-resistant steel that carries no coating to fail, because the surface itself is the protection. Over the life of a locker room it is the cheaper cabinet in most Singapore applications. Well suited to humid and regularly cleaned environments, with 316 available for more demanding wet and coastal locations.

Powder-coated steel
Cold-rolled steel, 0.5–1.2 mm, electrostatic powder coat
The conventional locker: formed steel with a baked-on powder finish, phosphate-free. It is the lowest cost per compartment and the only route to an exact colour match, so it is what most dry rooms should be specified in.

Acrylic
Clear or tinted panel doors in a steel or aluminium frame
A transparent door in a conventional frame, used where the contents have to be visible without opening anything. It turns a locker bank into something staff can audit at a glance — which cell is occupied, which device is missing, which compartment is still on charge.

Comparable to powder-coated steel
ABS
Moulded thermoplastic, no metal in the door at all
A moulded engineering plastic used where water is constant and the bank has to shrug it off. Nothing in the door can corrode, it is light enough to hang off a partition that would not carry steel, and it comes out of the mould in colour rather than being coated. A practical option alongside stainless for many wet-area applications.

Phenolic board
Solid compact laminate — no steel in the door at all
Resin-impregnated compact laminate, the same material used for wet-area cubicle systems. There is nothing in it to rust, the colour runs through the sheet so a scratch does not expose a different material underneath, and it is highly resistant to water and moisture.

Highest material cost, no coating to maintain
Where each one is the wrong choice the limits, in our words
- Stainless steel. Higher cost on day one, and that is the whole objection. It also shows fingerprints on a brushed finish, which matters front-of-house and not at all in a plant room.
- Powder-coated steel. The coating is the weak point. Chip a door edge in a wet room and corrosion starts underneath the finish, where you cannot see it until the panel is already going.
- Acrylic. It scratches, it does not like impact, and visible contents are an invitation in an unsupervised public room. Specify it where there is supervision, or where what is inside is worth nothing to a stranger.
- ABS. Sizes follow the mould, so compartment dimensions are far less negotiable than steel and a bespoke split is not always available. It is also softer than steel under impact, and a heavy full-height door is not what it is for.
- Phenolic board. One of the higher cost material options, and it is heavy — a phenolic door needs its ironmongery specified for the weight. It is also the least suited to very fine compartment splits, because the sheet thickness eats width you cannot get back.
Not only brushed and mirror: wood-grain, colour-laminated and other decorative finishes are available over stainless, so a front-of-house bank does not have to look like a plant room.

Keyed & mechanical locks
Simple, reliable and low maintenance
A cam lock with two keys, a padlock hasp, a coin-return lock or a mechanical combination dial. No power, no batteries, no network, no subscription and nothing to go obsolete. For a great many cabinets this is not a compromise — it is the correct specification, and we quote it without trying to talk you upward.

Digital keypad & card locks
No keys, no wiring, no subscription
A battery-powered lock fitted to each door with its own keypad, RFID reader or fingerprint sensor. It runs entirely offline: nothing is connected to anything, there is no controller, no socket and no monthly fee. This is the option most sites underestimate, and for day-use rooms and student lockers it is very often the sweet spot.

The locker room administers itself
Electronic latches wired to a controller at the end of the bank, running on the Latchwork platform. Users open by QR scan, PIN, existing access card or a staff remote release. What you are buying is not the unlocking — that is the easy part — but assignment management, automatic fee collection, timed release, access rules per bank and a log of every opening.

Step four is the one no keyed or offline lock can do, and the reason most locker rooms degrade.
The platform is already running unattended
The Latchwork access platform is not a prototype. It is the same platform that has been running unmanned professional tennis ball machine cabinets at ActiveSG Sport Village @ Jurong Town since day one, under our Tennis Machine SG brand — users book, pay and unlock entirely from their phone, at any hour, with nobody on duty. Applying it to member and staff storage is new, and we would rather say so than imply an installed base we do not yet have.
The awkward parts — verifying a user, taking payment, releasing a latch over the network, handling somebody who cannot get in at 11pm — are solved and in service, not on a roadmap.

You own the lockers
We specify, supply, deliver and install the cabinets, fit the access hardware, and license you the platform on an annual subscription per bank. The asset is yours, capitalised with the rest of the fit-out, and any locker fees you charge are entirely your revenue.

The trade-off: It costs money up front, and lockers are a capital item that has to be approved. In exchange the cost per locker over five years is lower than any managed arrangement, and the revenue is all yours.

We fund, install and operate
We pay for the cabinets, install them, insure them, service them, and handle every user query and payment. You provide the space and a socket. You receive a monthly rental, or a share of the locker revenue generated at your site, and there is no capital outlay at all.

What does Latchwork do?

Should I be looking at standard product or made to order?
Standard if a catalogue size fits your wall and the date is close — lead time starts at two weeks, subject to stock. Made to order if the opening is awkward, the count is specific, or the finish has to match a fit-out. The standard product range is plain steel lockers and charging lockers today, and grows as more of the catalogue is documented; everything else is made to order. Where both routes work we quote both and say which we would specify.
How is this different from buying lockers from a furniture supplier?
Traditional locker supply usually focuses on the cabinet itself, and the cabinet is the easy half. What goes wrong with a locker room is administrative: keys walk off, the assignment list drifts, day lockers get squatted, fees go uncollected, and departures leave lockers occupied. Latchwork can also provide access management, assignments and payment automation where required — software we built and run ourselves, not a badge on someone else's product.
Do we have to buy the smart system?
No. Roughly half of what we quote is conventional — keyed cam locks on cupboards, padlock hasps in changing rooms, battery keypads on school and gym lockers. On two of our nine families a keyed lock is what we recommend by default, before you tell us anything about your site. We only recommend the lock that meets the site's needs, instead of the most expensive option.
Do members need to install an app?
No. With connected access everything happens in the phone's browser — point the camera at the QR code on the door and a page opens that already knows which compartment it is. A numeric PIN on the keypad works for anyone who would rather not use a phone, and keyed and digital locks involve no phone at all.
Can we keep our existing lockers and just change the locks?
Usually yes, and it is much cheaper than replacement. The same cam lock cut-out that takes a battery keypad will also take a connected latch, so you can stop at whichever lock solves your problem. We survey a sample door first, because door thickness and latch geometry decide whether the kit fits — and we will tell you if your lockers are too thin-gauge or corroded to hold one.
What does it cost?
Quoted per project, because price follows compartment count, gauge, finish, lock type and how difficult the site is. As a guide: keyed steel lockers start in the low hundreds of dollars per compartment; battery keypads add a modest per-compartment cost and no recurring fee; connected access adds more plus an annual platform subscription per bank. Under the managed model there is no capital cost at all.
How long does delivery and installation take?
From two weeks for standard product, subject to stock. Six to ten weeks made to order, including sea freight and installation. A lock retrofit on existing lockers is faster still — two to three weeks from order, and about a day per room on site.
